How to Apply for a Showmen’s League of America Scholarship

Scholarship Guidelines

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM GUIDELINES

Applications will be accepted from all students, with emphasis on those graduating from high school.  Post-Graduate applications are accepted, but are only considered if funds are available.

New applicants (graduating High School Seniors):

  1. Complete the application form, paying special to the deadlines.  Application must be emailed postmarked by December 31, 2024.
  2. You may provide an unofficial transcript with your application, but must provide an official transcript, sent from the school to us, which must arrive by Jan. 31, 2025.  A transcript from each semester must be sent directly to us from the school within thirty days of the school posting the grades.
  3. A reference from your guidance counselor, on our form (on third page of College Scholarship Application), mailed to the Showmen’s League office directly from the school, is required.
  4. You must be sponsored by a current member of the Showmen’s League and you will be expected to join the League after you reach the age of 18.  Membership is a requirement for renewal.
  5. An applicant MUST submit a 1 or 2 page typed essay or autobiography containing a short personal history which includes your involvement in the industry, if any and how your education and future degree will contribute to the Industry or the League.
  6. Please include a resume-style color picture, which we may use in our publications, emails or on our web site.

 

Renewal Applicants:

  1. Application (same form as new applicants use) must be emailed, faxed or postmarked by Dec. 31, 2024
  2. You must provide an official transcript, sent from the school to us, which must arrive by January 31, 2025.  Unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
  3. You must be a full time student in good standing at your school and must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA or equivalent.
  4. A transcript from each semester must be sent directly to us from the school within thirty days of the school posting the grades.  In other words, we expect to get a transcript for every semester within 30 days of their posting.
  5. A color, resume-style picture (professional photo not required) is appreciated.
  6. Each renewal must include an updated autobiography including current school activities, awards, extracurricular and community activities and your college major with your career goals.  We reserve the right to publish these with your photo.


All Applicants

Missing deadlines or failure to provide required information may cause your application to be rejected and/or may result in the loss of scholarship for future years.  The scholarship offered by The Showmen’s League of America is paid directly to the college or university, not to the student.   The scholarship may be used for the tuition, books, supplies and/or lab fees of the student and shall be distributed to the student in accordance with school policy.  In the event that any funds are unused, theses amount must be returned to The Showmen’s League of America.

The scholarships are based on superior academic skills with consideration given to test scores, scholastic performance and high school recommendations.  Student’s extra curricular activities and involvement in the industry will also be considered.  The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the student’s own merit, academic accomplishments, character and commitment.  Financial need and family situations are not factors in these awards.  Scholarships are not guaranteed to be renewed.

Scholarship and membership applications may be obtained from the office of The Showmen’s League of America, 106 Calendar Ave, #165, La Grange, IL 60525 at any time and MUST BE SUBMITTED to this office by mail or email no later than December 31, 2024.   

The Showmen’s League Scholarship Committee will review all applications and will award the scholarships as funds allow and the committee elects.   The Committee may interview applicants and recipients at any time.  The decision of the Committee is final and the rules, regulations and requirements are subject to change without notice.
